We find having one room can be beneficial as the older children will help the younger children. Children are given the opportunity to explore colours, shapes and counting, through a range of activities and the staff ask lots of open ended question, to help extend your child’s play. Everything in the room is carefully labelled with clear writing as well as bright photographs, to encourage your child to be independent from a young age as they access their own resources within the room, all under supervision of course.
The children work and play in a stimulating, open plan environment, where our experienced and caring staff prepare routines that follow early learning goals. Nursery children are encouraged to explore all aspects of early learning such as social skills, creative language, general knowledge, literacy and numeracy as well as self-help skills. When they enter the setting children self register and welcome their peers, sign the days of the week using makaton signs, count the children and complete the weather board.
Welcome to our indoor learning environment, designed for children aged 18 months to 5 years. The spacious, open layout allows children to explore freely and confidently, with areas thoughtfully arranged to spark curiosity and support independent learning in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. We provide a natural, authentic atmosphere with open-ended resources that offer meaningful, real-life experiences. Each part of the room is tailored to the children’s developmental needs, with materials stored so they can be accessed independently encouraging children to grow into confident, resilient learners who are well prepared for school.
At Fun Start Childcare, we foster a warm and inclusive community where all age groups learn and play together in one shared space. This mixed-age approach allows older children to naturally guide and model positive behaviour for younger ones, promoting cooperation and strong social skills. The open environment nurtures friendships, independence and a sense of belonging, helping every child feel secure, valued and part of a supportive learning family.
“Children are eager to attend this warm and inviting setting. They seek out their friends and happily engage in their play. Children show confidence as they independently access the large range of age-appropriate resources.”

At Fun Start Childcare, we are proud to offer three enriching outdoor spaces that give children endless opportunities to explore, discover and learn. Outdoor play is a vital part of early childhood development—it supports physical health, boosts well-being, encourages problem-solving and promotes creativity and independence. Being outdoors allows children to take appropriate risks, build resilience and connect with the natural world.
Thanks to a generous £10,000 grant from Pentagon Play, we were able to enhance our gardens with a wide range of high-quality equipment for all ages.
Our front garden features a dedicated writing and physical development shed filled with hundreds of resources, as well as bikes, a trampoline, a swing, a sandpit and more. The two back gardens offer rich learning opportunities with a creative area, mud kitchen, story corner, mark-making stations, musical instruments, a maths shed, small world play, a large slide and a climbing dome.
Each outdoor area is equipped with resources carefully selected to suit the developmental stages of all our children, ensuring every child can enjoy meaningful, engaging and age-appropriate experiences throughout the day.

We support all children in building positive relationships with both their peers and adults, helping them develop the confidence to communicate comfortably in group situations. By recognising and praising their efforts and achievements across all areas of learning—and modelling courteous behaviour—we nurture each child’s self-esteem, resilience and sense of pride.
Fun Start Childcare is fully inclusive, and we warmly welcome and support children with SEND or complex needs. Our team works closely with families and external professionals to ensure every child receives the personalised care and guidance they need to thrive.
Every child is assigned a key worker who takes responsibility for monitoring their development and providing consistent support. Staff track each child’s progress termly to ensure their learning is on track and to plan next steps that build on their strengths or offer additional support where needed. Key workers meet with parents once each term, and we also hold a Parents’ Evening in July, giving families the opportunity to discuss their child’s development, interests and achievements in greater detail and raise any questions they may have.
“Thank you for all your hard work- as always! We have loved all the parent activities you’ve done lately and love the dojo updates the kids always look so happy!”
