Our Curriculum

Fun Start Childcare

What is the curriculum?

The curriculum is everything we want the children to experience and learn whilst they are in nursery.

Learning includes new words, new skills and new knowledge.

Experiences include trips out of nursery, times when we invite people in, like musicians. We also have special extra experiences in nursery like farm on wheels and caterpillars.

Children learn a great deal of our curriculum through play and activities they choose.

They also learn through our careful selection of ‘key books, rhymes and songs’ in nursery.

We also have 8 curricular goals for every child to work towards:

How do Young Children learn?

Language

We carry out Early Communication Screenings twice a year which indicate any gaps as early invention is key. Tina and Amy are trained to carry out Time2Talk and Early Talk boost sessions for any children needing a little extra support with their communication and language.

Relationships

it is very important for children to feel safe and secure. That’s why every child has a key person who takes the lead on their care. Children become more independent when they have strong and loving relationships to fall back on. They also become better at bouncing back when they find something hard, or get upset.

Play

At Fun Start Childcare, we recognise that play is at the heart of every child’s learning journey. Our environment is designed to encourage free and imaginative play, where children can explore, experiment, and discover the world around them. By offering a variety of open-ended resources and stimulating outdoor spaces, we create opportunities for children to develop key skills like creativity, problem-solving, and social interaction. We believe that through play, children build the confidence and resilience they need to thrive, while also fostering emotional well-being and a love of learning that will last a lifetime.

Our Learning Schemes

Speech Club

Speech Club

Our Speech Club provides children with additional opportunities to develop their communication and language skills in a fun, supportive environment. Through games, songs, stories, and interactive activities, children are encouraged to build their vocabulary, improve their listening skills, and gain confidence in speaking and expressing their ideas. Speech Club helps support children’s overall communication development and prepares them for successful learning and social interactions

Concept Cat

Concept Cat

The Concept Cat scheme to support children’s language development and understanding of key concepts. Through fun, engaging activities and stories, children explore important ideas such as size, position, quantity, time, and feelings. Concept Cat helps build vocabulary, communication skills, and confidence, providing a strong foundation for future learning and early literacy.
