Connecting for Success

Research shows that involving parents and carers in their children’s learning is the most important factor in enabling some children to do well regardless of background. Working in partnership with parents and carers is central to the early years foundation stage (EYFS).

We believe that children benefit the most when parents and staff work together in partnership to ensure quality care and learning for the children. The nursery team welcomes parents as partners and this relationship needs to be built on trust and understanding.

At Fun Start Childcare, relationships with ‘Our Families’ matter, and is one of our core key values. Through effective partnerships and strong communication, we unite our early years expertise with our family’s expert knowledge of their children; to strive for the very best outcomes for all children.

"Parents feel well supported and comment that they get good communication from the setting, both verbally and through an online system. Parents have termly reports and meetings to discuss their child's progress. They attend events, such as Mother's Day tea and Father's Day picnics, as well as fundraising events throughout the year.”

Keeping in Touch
Communicating with parents through Class Dojo

Class Dojo

What is CLASS DOJO

Don’t miss a moment of your child’s day we keep in touch with parents throughout the day using the free class dojo app, a secure online journal sharing your child’s key moments from information on events to photos of activities and points for good behaviour. Only you and the nursery can see your child’s profile. You can view and comment on special moments and share stories of your child’s life outside nursery.

Class Dojo is a school communication platform that teachers, students, and families use every day to build close-knit communities by sharing what’s being learned in the classroom home through photos, videos, and messages.

Stories

Stories are instantly updating streams of messages, pictures and videos similar to a Twitter-style timeline.
Every class and school has their own Story, all of which are shared home with parents. School Story helps teachers to share with all families connected to their school while Class Story helps teachers to share with all families connected to their class.

Portfolio

ClassDojo Portfolios are digital student portfolios that allow students to share classwork with their teachers and family. Teachers can also assign projects directly to students.
Teachers can view and approve student work on Portfolios. Students can create and upload photos, videos, drawings through ClassDojo, and can also upload Microsoft Office files, PDFs, and image files from any laptop devices to which students can respond. Parents and teachers can leave positive feedback in the form of a like and/or comments.

Messages

Stories are instantly updating streams of messages, pictures and videos similar to a Twitter-style timeline.
Staff will respond to any messages from parents within 24 hours. Messages sent out of hours will not always be seen by the teacher until the next working day.

Dojo or Monster Points

Teachers use Class Dojo to promote positive behaviours in their classroom.
Each child gets a monster avatar, and teachers can award Dojos for things such as staying on task, meeting a target, being kind or brilliant sharing. Each student’s monsters can only be customised from within a student account.
